A Fantastic End to the Term: Celebrating Student Talents, Creativity and Achievement

Students and staff enjoyed a truly memorable end to the term as the school came together for a day of enrichment activities designed to celebrate interests, passions and talents. With a wide range of experiences on offer, students embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, demonstrating excellent behaviour, creativity and teamwork throughout the day.

One of the standout experiences was the visit from Zante Fox and Friends, which proved both educational and inspiring. Students and staff were captivated as they met a variety of animals, including an owl, snake, dove and hedgehog. The session offered a unique opportunity to learn about wildlife up close and created lasting memories for everyone involved.

The school's Colour Run brought energy, excitement and plenty of colour to the day. Students had a fantastic time while raising money for a worthy cause. A portion of the funds raised will be used to purchase Zante Fox and Friendsbooks for the school's Independent Learning Centre (ILC), ensuring the impact of the day continues long after the event.

Food lovers flourished in the popular Shrek 'n Serve activity, where students showcased their culinary skills by preparing and serving a themed menu for Year 7 Oxclose Eatflix guests. Visitors enjoyed creative dishes including "Not the Gumdrop Buttons" gingerbread men, "Weed Rat" chicken skewers and a delicious Swamp Soup, all inspired by the much-loved film.

Students also benefited from an outstanding animation workshop delivered by local animator Robin Webb. The creativity and technical skills demonstrated by students were remarkable, with the completed animations showcasing an impressive level of imagination and talent.

Adding to the excitement of the day, Kev and former Oxclose student Tony delivered an engaging and highly inspiring Martial Arts workshop. Students learned valuable self-defence techniques while developing confidence, self-discipline, resilience and respect. Their positive messages and enthusiasm left a lasting impression on everyone who took part.

Meanwhile, Millie from AAA Sports led energetic cheerleading sessions that encouraged teamwork, perseverance and communication. Students quickly rose to the challenge, supporting one another while learning new skills and building confidence in a fun and inclusive environment.

Creativity was further nurtured through workshops delivered by Hannah from Sunderland Culture. Students took part in tote bag printing and ceramic trinket dish making, producing beautiful personalised keepsakes to take home. The sessions inspired artistic expression and gave students something special to be proud of.

The school's PE team organised an excellent programme of sporting activities, ensuring students remained active, engaged and challenged throughout the day. Elsewhere, the Trash to Trend group demonstrated how sustainability and creativity can work hand in hand, transforming recycled materials into imaginative and impressive fashion pieces.

In Performing Arts, students travelled back to the Elizabethan era through captivating performances of scenes from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. Their commitment, confidence and dramatic talent were evident throughout.

Special recognition must also go to the school's dance students and student dance leaders. In the face of adversity, they showed tremendous determination and resilience, choreographing and leading a fantastic performance that was enjoyed by all. Their hard work, leadership and commitment were truly inspiring.

From wildlife encounters and sporting challenges to creative arts, performance and community partnerships, the enrichment day showcased the very best of what our students can achieve when given the opportunity to explore their talents and interests.

The enthusiasm, resilience, creativity and positivity displayed throughout the day made it a fitting and memorable way to end a successful term. A huge thank you goes to all staff, visitors and students who contributed to making the event such a tremendous success.
