Oxclose Community Academy Celebrates Pi Day 2026
Back
Oxclose Community Academy brought Mathematics to life as pupils celebrated Pi Day with a series of engaging activities designed to combine fun and learning.
A highlight was the annual Pi reciting competition, where a Year 8 pupil memorably recalled 214 digits of Pi. Beyond showcasing impressive memory skills, the competition encouraged pupils to appreciate patterns in numbers and the significance of Pi in Mathematics.
The celebrations extended throughout the Academy. Staff embraced the occasion with Pi-themed T-shirts, while pupils gathered for the traditional Pi Day photograph on the yard. Key Stage 3 students took part in a Maths treasure hunt, solving practical problems and applying their understanding of numerical concepts in a collaborative, hands-on way.
Creativity and cross-curricular learning were also at the forefront. The catering team marked the day with specially prepared pies and a new Pi-Ku competition challenged pupils to combine mathematical knowledge with English skills, writing short poems inspired by Pi.
Throughout the week, Pi-themed assemblies and classroom lessons focused on the properties of circles and the relevance of Pi in real-world contexts, ensuring that celebrations were both enjoyable and educational.
The day offered pupils a memorable opportunity to engage with Mathematics, strengthen problem-solving skills and experience the subject in a practical and imaginative way, reinforcing Oxclose Community Academy’s commitment to making learning both meaningful and inspiring.
