How to Make the Boat Go Faster!

On Monday mornings, a buzz of excitement runs through our Year 7 students as they head off to the Marine Activity Centre. Over the past few weeks, our first three groups have had the chance to take part in a range of water-based activities designed to challenge and inspire them.

The sessions go beyond just learning practical skills on the water. Students are encouraged to work together, form new friendships, and push themselves out of their comfort zones. Confidence, resilience, and teamwork are at the heart of every activity—because, as the instructors remind them, everything is aimed at one clear goal: making the boat go faster!

This phrase has quickly become more than just instructions on the water; it’s a new mantra echoing around school. “How can we make the boat go faster?” is now shorthand for giving your best effort, supporting each other, and finding smarter ways to achieve success—whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or in everyday challenges.

Year 7 are certainly leading the way, but the message is one that the whole school is beginning to embrace: with teamwork, resilience, and a willingness to try, we can all make the boat go faster.
