Students Shine at The Big Ideas Regional Finals!

We’re thrilled to share that our incredible students had an unforgettable day at the North East Regional Final of The Big Ideas Programme, showcasing their hard work and passion for sustainable solutions to help the planet. 

After being shortlisted from many applications and making it into the final 9 teams, our students presented their innovative sustainability business plans to a panel of judges and professionals. Their creativity, confidence, and communication skills left everyone—from staff to judges—absolutely inspired. 

Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to:
• Present their ideas to industry experts
• Network with local businesses including Northern Gas Networks and TARMAC
• Tour the University of Sunderland, including the state-of-the-art computer science and game development departments • • Explore future career and education opportunities

Both Mr Bell and Mrs Harle were incredibly proud of the students' positivity, professionalism, and ability to respond thoughtfully to questions from the judges.

We’re beyond proud to announce that Team Minus Meat were crowned winners of the regional competition! They now move forward to represent the North East at the national finals in London, where they will present to MPs at the Houses of Parliament and explore key sites in the capital!

We also celebrate Team E-Spread, one of the runners-up, who also represented Oxclose with enthusiasm and excellence.

All students were fantastic ambassadors for our school, and staff, judges, and even restaurant staff commented on how well-mannered, grateful, and engaged our students were throughout the experience.
